U14 Essex Open – 21 May 2018 – Tabitha Mauro
Tabby competed in the U14 Essex Open at Redbridge Sports and Leisure Centre. She competed in the Girls Singles and Girls Doubles (partnered by Maddison Griffin). Tabby was unseeded in the singles competition and won both her group matches 15-7, 15-4 and 15-5, 15-8. This helped her progress to the knockout phase of the singles competition as group winner. In the last 16 round she fought back from a game down to win 12-15, 15-2, 15-9 to get into the quarter finals where she won 15-8, 15-4. In the semi finals she had to play the conqueror of the 2nd seed in the quarter finals but her confidence was high and she managed to make her way into the final by winning 15-11, 15-8. In the final she met top seed and what would be her toughest match of the competition and after having lost a tough first game 15-9, gathered her thoughts, and played some great badminton to win the Gold Medal and title of U14 Essex Open Girls Singles Champion 2018 by winning the 2nd game 15-12 and the 3rd game by the same scoreline. She then partnered Maddison Griffin and continued her good form to win a bronze medal in the girls doubles.
