Derby U15 Gold – Jasmine Owen

Jasmine Owen at the Derby U15 Gold – 09.09.2018

Jasmine kicked off the singles in impressive style winning her group games in style, beating Aarthy Aravind 21-10, 21-14 and Sofia Bao 21-9, 21-13.

This led to a QF match against the 3/4 seed Natasha Morris. This was a tough, tense match which Jasmine lost 19-21, 18-21. Natasha went on to win the tournament.

The doubles started well with Katie Reilly as Jasmines partner, winning twice before losing a three-set match to the 3/4 seeds Sophie Hillman & Ashwati Nair 21-17, 15-21, 9-21. Not a bad effort from the scratch pair against the eventual semi-finalists.

Jasmine paired up with her usual partner, Dan Kite in the mixed doubles. This was a knockout competition and they lost in the 2nd round to the No. 1 seeds and eventual champions Samuel Jones & Estelle Van Leeuwen 14-21, 12-21 having beaten Isum Arachchige & Pranathi Koneru 21-10, 21-18 in the 1st round.

This was a reasonable start for Jasmine with a tough draw showing her there is a long way to go yet before she can expect to compete at this level.
