Harper Leigh – Wales

Harper’s season concluded on Saturday 1st June so I thought I’d update you on his progress and achievements.

He moved from under 13 to under 15s which is a big transition and due to family circumstances didn’t play many tournaments before Christmas.  However, he has made up for this since the new year.

His grading moved to E.  He represented Wales in Celtic Challenge, Quadrangular Under 15s and at Glasgow Youth International.  Winning games at all events.

Harper was runner up in Welsh National singles under 15, winner in both doubles and mixed doubles.  So 5 national titles in two seasons.

He was a losing semi finalist in an under 15 Silver in Devon and in an under 14 Open in Dorset.  He has pushed the top English and Scottish under 14s all the way and is close to breaking through to the top level in his age group.

He was a losing semi finalist in Gloucester  under 15 bronze doubles and under 14 Dorset Open in mixed doubles.

Next season the plan is to attend all Gold events, some silver, some under 17 bronze & play a few European tournaments in Dublin, Malmo, Olve and hopefully the European Under 15s.

Harper continues to train hard with Badminton Wales’ Regional Academy in Cardiff and Newport Badminton Academy alongside 12 of the best players from Wales & Avon.
